think we need to help seed that demand and perhaps using some of these spaces, city college, hunters view, the sewer plant, those could be great ways to do it. so, we're happy to work with the car share companies and those land owners to try to get more car sharing outside of the on-street. in any case, we want to pursue the on-street as well for the reasons that we discussed. they're visible. they're everywhere. they're perhaps more sustainable because they don't go away the way parking lots do. so, i think parallel strategy of both on-street and off-street legislation supervisor wiener has introduced, all of those are pathways to get more car-sharing in san francisco. >> thank you. director [speaker not understood], would you like to say anything? >> good afternoon, supervisors. could give us a quick reply. guest: the long-term future of the country will depend on a lot of things. the u.s. is taking a lot of steps right now to right the ship. labor may be one of them. taxation may be one of them. there are some estimates that we can be energy self-sufficient in the next 30, 40 years, so maybe that helps. this is a very complex issue. it has to be resolved. there has to be a happy medium there. whether or not it is because these ceos are boring abroad for certain things or not, that is up for debate. i'm certainly not one who will take a position on that because i don't know enough about it to make that call. there are a lot of very smart people out there, who we should respect, they are very good at what they do and they are still debating about what the proper solutions to this is. all right now, this is why we're seeing such a huge amount of debate going on in d.c. and in board rooms across the country. washington, d.c. host: there have been reports that secretary geithner will play a role in these talks. guest: the economic team is in place right now. this

.c. darcy spencer joins us live with the breaking developments. darcy? >> reporter: jim, i just got off the phone with the d.c. police and i can confirm that an arrest has been made in this case. we're awaiting additional details. but i can tell you the suspect's name is tieran mcelraft, arrested today, just 18 years old, on burglary one. that involved burglary where an assault was involved in that. the victim just 81 years old. police returned to the scene here on mckinley street around 45 minutes ago to collect additional evidence. this crime happened somewhere between 11:45 yesterday morning and 12:30 in the afternoon. the victim, she is blind and she is hard of hearing. the suspect apparently got into her home through a broken basement window. then there was some sort of encounter between that suspect and the victim inside her home. at that point they tell us that she was punched in her head and face. now, yesterday she was found by a mailman here. and he indicated she was barely kpgs. and she was confused. right at her own doorstep. >> the nature of the crime is a heinous crime, a

israeli soldiers demanded that all of us -- our cnn crew, myself, we get to a shelter. usually they have about 30 seconds once the sirens go off before there actually is a rocket or missile that reaches the ground. in this particular case, when we were running, we got to a shelter. it was packed with soldiers, with civilians. and then we finally heard that thud. in this particular case, that iron dome, the israeli anti-missile defense shield, which has been financed at least in some measure by the united states, it worked. and the incoming rokts and missiles were destroyed in the air. later we walked outside and saw that plume of smoke showing those missiles, the rockets had been destroyed. earlier in the day at that same school where we had been -- the iron dome didn't work successfully. and that rocket hit the ground. there was some damage there. no casualties on that particular road. we spent some quality time watching what was going on. and it was a significant situation. on both sides of the border, people are living and dying. there is intense, intense pain in gaza as well as in is
